Top Ten: Books To Read With A Hot-Chocolate On A Winters Day
Picture this: The wind is howling outside your room. You're wearing a fluffy onesie, but you're still shivering from the cold. You peek outside and your windows are frozen over, so you can't see much outside. Though it doesn't hide everything. You can still see the swirling snow, and you can see the trees almost bending in half from the sheer force of the wind. You can hear the hail drumming beats on your roof, and you can hear the thunder growling.
What you just pictured was horrific weather.
Now, let's make this story a bit better.
You walk back to your bed, and indulge yourself in fluffy blankets. You have a warm cat on your knee. Much better. You also have a delicious hot chocolate with two marshmallows bobbing on the top. You scan your bookshelf, looking for the perfect book to dive into. Hear are some suggestions for this scenario:
Book 1: Awakening by Natalie King
This book is set in Tekapo. In winter. And one of the main characters lives in an ice-cold lake. This book will immediately make you grateful for your blankets, and your warm fluffy socks!
Book 2: The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis
There is nothing like snuggling down with a childhood classic! Also, in this book it is always winter. This is kind of an obvious choice ;)
Book 3: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
A book about books! How delightful! Not only ice cold settings, but some ice-cold hearts...
Book 4: When We Wake by Karen Healey
About a girl who is frozen for 100 years... I need not explain my choice.
Book 5: Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone by (do I really need to say it?)
3 words: Christmas. At. Hogwarts.
Book 6: Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
Chocolate makes me feel toasty, what about you? This book has the word chocolate printed everywhere, even on the front cover! Perfect book to match your hot-chocolate :)
Book 7: The Little House on The Prairie by Laura Ingalls
This book makes me warm and fuzzy inside! A beautifully written classic that has stuck with me my whole life.
Book 8: The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien
I just love flipping through the pages of this book on a winters day! It takes me away from the cold, and puts me in some place else.
Book 9: A Dog Named Homeless by Michael Morpurgo
A very sweet book that heats up your heart (and all your other organs and limbs.)
Book 10: Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle
A book of three short stories, all set in the snow! Also in the list because John Green is one of my favourite authors of all time! ;)

Ahh there's nothing better than curling up in bed with a good book when's it's cold outside. Also, this list is awesome! Yep, "Christmas. At. Hogwarts' is just perfect. I also totally agree with Narnia, The Hobbit and The Book Thief! I'd also add on Wuthering Heights and The Night Circus!
ReplyDeleteLovely post. :)
Haha thanks! I haven't read Wuthering Heights or The Night Circus, but they have been on my to-read list for a while, so I will be reading them soon!! :)
